Getting to Know the Area
The Virginia Beach area showcases one of the most spectacular National Wildlife Refuges in Virginia. Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is on the Atlantic coast in the southeastern corner of Virginia. The Flame of Hope Memorial is on Oceana Boulevard just outside the main gate. The park is situated in such a position that it affords visitors an excellent advantage for photographing and viewing Oceana jet aircraft as they take off and land. The park includes picnic tables for use by the public.
