Stratton Air National Guard Base

109th Airlift Wing

1 Air National Guard Rd, Schenectady, NY 12302

Stratton Air National Guard Base is located in Scotia, New York, approximately 25 miles from the state capital of Albany.  The main unit at this base is the 109th Airlift Wing.  The mission at Stratton ANG is Air Mobility, a mission that delivers global air transportation of equipment and supplies during times of war and for peace-time training exercises. This includes providing safe, comfortable and reliable transportation of military personnel or dignitaries anywhere in the world. In addition, they perform scientific missions, which involves transporting scientists to Antarctica in specially designed, ski-outfitted aircraft.

The 109th Airlift Wing supports four federal missions: polar airlift, aero-medical evacuation, aerial port, and field hospital contingencies. These missions require the use of multiple career fields, security forces, services, personnel, communications, supply, as well as many others. The 109th is the only Wing in the Air Force that possesses the ski-equipped LC-130 aircraft, which supports the National Science Foundation and makes these planes invaluable.

The closest airport is Albany International Airport located 12.7 miles from base.

In 2010, the majority of states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity adopted Common Core State Standards that provide a consistent set of educational expectations for students, regardless of ZIP code. When a family moves, a student’s education is often disrupted because the student may be forced to repeat material or learn at a different level at the new school. With common standards across states, this disruption will be reduced — of particular interest to military families. For more information, visit
