Constructed in 1971, the Shelbyville Armory provides military and community support to the state of Indiana because it is the only aviation unit in the state of Indiana. Located in Shelby County, just behind the Shelbyville Airport, the Shelbyville Armory is owned and managed by the Indiana Army National Guard. This location is a military facility maintained for the storage of arms and ammunition and supports the training, administration and logistics of National Guard units.


From Indianapolis, take the Fairland Road exit (109) off of I-74, which is one exit north of the Shelbyville exit. Turn left at the exit, go across the bridge and turn right at the base of the hill onto Michigan Road. Follow Michigan Road and the Armory will be on your left.

The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is 42 miles from Shelbyville.
There is currently not any public train or bus service from Indianapolis to Shelbyville, so most people use their own vehicles or use a rideshare service.

In Indiana, if your child will turn 5 on or before September 1, you are eligible to apply for and enroll them in kindergarten. If your child will turn 4 on or before September 1, you are eligible to apply for and enroll them in IPS Pre-Kindergarten. If your child will turn 5 between August 2 and September 1, you are eligible to apply for kindergarten or IPS Pre-Kindergarten and enroll them accordingly.

High temperatures can soar to the high 90s an average of 18 days per year. The winters are cold with an average January temperature 28.1° F; during the winter months, the area receives about 25 inches of snowfall. Spring and fall are more moderate and comfortable. The rainiest months occur during the spring and summer months; the average rainfall is about 40 inches each year.

Shelbyville, Indiana is located in Shelby County about 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis. As of 2018, the population of Shelbyville was 19,326. The county offers a number of parks for the kids, hiking trails and has the Indiana Grand Racing & Casino, which features live horse racing.
