ABOUT

Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Baseis a former air defense military installation collocated to use runways with the Westhampton, New York, municipal airport. The stationed unit is the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing. The 106th Rescue Wing’s airmen are a team of diverse and adaptable war fighters that deploy globally, to support U.S. and Allied Forces as well as State and Federal authorities by providing worldwide combat search and rescue, personnel recovery, and expeditionary combat support. The HC-130 Hercules Cargo plane and HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter allows the 106th RQW to support global air transportation, mid-air refueling operations and homeland defense during both peace and wartime operations.

The mission of the 106 Rescue Wing at Francis S. Gabreski ANG Base is Combat Search and Rescue. The specialized unit that carriers out these missions are the elite Pararescue Jumpers who are able to go anywhere in the world in a moments notice. They’re as versatile as the tools they use, to include the HH-60 Pavehawk Helicopter and HC-130 Hercules Cargo Plane. The advantage for having versatile and advanced aircraft is mid-air refueling, which broadens rescue capabilities and ultimately saves lives.

FOR THE CHILDREN

To be enrolled in a New York school, a child must be 4 years 7 months before the first day of the school year. Check with the school for other requirements.

In 2010, the majority of states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity adopted Common Core State Standards that provide a consistent set of educational expectations for students, regardless of ZIP code. When a family moves, a student’s education is often disrupted because the student may be forced to repeat material or learn at a different level at the new school. With common standards across states, this disruption will be reduced — of particular interest to military families. For more information, visit http://www.corestandards.org/.
