The MCMWTC is fortunate to have a modern facility that includes a large weight room, cardiovascular room, two racquetball courts, a basketball court, a state-of-the-art indoor climbing wall and male and female locker rooms with dry sauna. This facility is available from 0800 – 2100 Monday – Friday and 1000 – 1700 Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
For the outdoor adventurer, this is paradise. Bachelor housing is located on base and boasts the best mountain views of any Marine Corps military housing anywhere!
For scenic value, few places can compare to MCMWTC and the surrounding areas. Yosemite National Park is only an hour south of the base. Lake Tahoe is about two hours to the north. Numerous lakes and streams are in and around the base. The surrounding region is known for trophy-trout fishing and outdoor recreation.
The area is home to a number of destinations including: Mammoth Mountain, Mono Lake, June Lake and Bodie State Historic Park. This area is prone to extreme weather conditions. State Route (SR) 89 (Monitor Pass), SR-108 (Sonora Pass) and SR-120 (Tioga Pass – Yosemite Entrance) close frequently due to winter storms.
MCCS does its best in providing day-to-day necessities in their exchanges at main side and the housing area. The closest major shopping location is Gardnerville, NV – approximately 50 miles north on Highway 395. More diversified shopping is found in Carson City – Nevada’s state capitol – 20 miles north of Gardnerville.
