Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) is a United States military facility located 18 miles southeast of Trenton, New Jersey. The base is the only tri-service base in the United States Department of Defense and includes units from all five armed forces branches. The facility is an amalgamation of the United States Air Force’s McGuire Air Force Base, the United States Army’s Fort Dix and the United States Navy’s Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst, which were merged on 1 October 2009.

The 42,000-contiguous acres of JBMDL are home to more than 80 mission partners and 40 mission commanders providing a wide range of combat capability. The base spans more than 20 miles, from east to west. It is situated in Burlington and Ocean counties and includes portions of eight municipalities: the borough of Wrightstown and the townships of New Hanover, North Hanover, Pemberton, and Springfield, in Burlington County, and the townships of Jackson, Manchester, and Plumsted in Ocean County.

Dix and McGuire are located in Burlington County New Jersey (south central) in the Delaware River Region, near New York City, Philadelphia, Atlantic City and the famous New Jersey Shore. The base is located in a wooded, rural/agricultural area which is the least densely populated area in the state. Lakehurst is located on the eastern portion of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. – formerly known as Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) Lakehurst.  Lakehurst lies on approximately 7,400 of the joint base’s 42,000 contiguous acres and is centrally located in the New Jersey Pinelands. The eastern side of the base is a resort area located geographically in a high cost of living region of the United States. This is a suburban/rural community and you will need a personal vehicle to take advantage of the services and activities in the area.
