Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay, initially named “Barview Life-Saving Station”, has been in operation since 1908 and was first opened as a life-saving service. The current station has been in continuous operation since 1942. In 1993, the Station was entered onto the National Register of Historic Places. The coxswain of a 44-foot Motor Lifeboat from CGS Tillamook Bay was awarded the unusual honor of two Coast Guard Medals in 1980 for leading two daring rescues.

Station Tillamook Bay has an area of responsibility from Tillamook Head to Cape Kiwanda. The primary missions include rough water rescues, maritime environmental protection, law enforcement, boating safety, and the implementation of commercial fishing vessel regulations. Located about two miles from the entrance of Tillamook Bay, the Station is equipped with four search and rescue boats, including two 47-foot motor lifeboats (47-MLB), one 29-foot Response Boat Small (29-RBS) and a 16-foot SKF. The bar at the entrance of the bay is one of the most dangerous bars on the Oregon coast. During the year, CG Station Tillamook Bay averages about 250 search and rescue cases.

The station is equipped with a flood relief punt to evacuate people stranded by frequent flooding. Currently, 39 active duty personnel, 26 reserve personnel, and 4 civilian personnel are assigned to Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay.

USCG Station Tillamook Bay is just off U.S. Route 101/Garibaldi Avenue or the Oregon Coast Highway.

However, that number drops to ages 5 to 6 once the child is enrolled in public school. For kindergarten, the state of Oregon does offer an early entry option.

In 2010, the majority of states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity adopted Common Core State Standards that provide a consistent set of educational expectations for students, regardless of ZIP code. When a family moves, a student’s education is often disrupted because the student may be forced to repeat material or learn at a different level at the new school. With common standards across states, this disruption will be reduced — of particular interest to military families. For more information, visit
