Coast Guard station bayfield

Ninth District

209 S. 1st St. Bayfield, Wisconsin 54814

Coast Guard Anchors

The primary mission of the CG Station Bayfield is Search and Rescue, but the highly trained crew members assigned to this location also perform other operations, such as Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Public Affairs, Ice Rescue and occasionally Marine Safety. Crews routinely conduct safety and security zone patrols to ensure that no vessels enter areas of potential hazard.
Currently, the unit operates two standard small boats, one 29-foot RB-S, which is able to respond to emergencies at high speeds, and a 45-foot RB-M, which is able to handle 12 foot seas and can tow disabled vessels up to 100 displacement tons. The Area of Responsibility (AOR) includes the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

The Bayfield Station is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but advise your sponsor or XPO if you plan on arriving after hours. Public transportation is limited in the area of Bayfield, so most people use personal vehicles to get around. The nearest airport is the Duluth International Airport (DLH/KDLH) in Minnesota, which is approximately 90 miles west of Bayfield, and is about a 2 hour drive.

Wisconsin State Statutes (118.14(1)(a)) specify that children are eligible for kindergarten based on their age. To be eligible for 4-year old kindergarten, a child must be 4 by September 1 of the school year. To be eligible for 5-year old kindergarten, a child must be 5 by September 1 of the school year. Placement is not based on a child’s ability, but rather will be determined by age. Compulsory school age in Wisconsin is 6 years, so legally, parents do not have to enroll their 5-year old in kindergarten. However, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction encourages parents to send their children to kindergarten when they are age-eligible.

The Bayfield School District is composed of four schools:
