In Leavenworth, the summers are hot, muggy, and wet, and the winters are short, very cold, dry, and windy. It is partly cloudy year round and over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 22°F to 89°F and is rarely below 4°F or above 98°F.

The coldest day of the year is January 6, with an average low of 22°F and high of 39°F.


The wetter season lasts 5.9 months, from March 29 to September 26, with a greater than 27% chance of a given day being a wet day. The chance of a wet day peaks at 45% on June 8. The drier season lasts 6.1 months, from September 26 to March 29. The smallest chance of a wet day is 9% on January 12.


Tornado season is from April through October, with typical peak season for tornadoes occurring during the months of April, May, and June. However, tornadoes can occur anytime of the year.
