Fort Drum is located in northern New York’s picturesque North Country. The installation is in the middle of one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles south of Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands in between.


There are many outdoor activities to enjoy, including skiing, white water rafting, and hiking.  There are also many family-friendly activities, restaurants, and shopping areas in the nearby city of Watertown.


Some points of interest include Sackets Harbor, Watertown Farmers Market, Thousand Island Winery, New York State Zoo at Thompson Park, Black River Trail Head, and Keewaydin State Park.
