The hottest day of the year is July 22, with an average high of 92°F and low of 71°F. The cool season lasts for 2.8 months, from November 30 to February 23, with an average daily high temperature below 65°F. The coldest day of the year is January 24, with an average low of 36°F and high of 59°F.

Getting to Know the Area
Fort Benning sits at the heart of  the Tri-Community which includes Columbus, Georgia and Phenix city, Alabama. In addition, the major metropolitan areas of Montgomery, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia are both only an hour and a half’s drive away from base. Florida’s Gulf Coast  and the mountains of northern Georgia are only a few hours drive away from Fort Benning. Columbus is a growing community with old charm but has the conveniences of a modern city. Phenix city, Alabama is located on the Chattahoochee River with many outdoor activities available.  Columbus Historic District stretches 30 blocks and has many early homes from the 1800s. A wide range of cultural sites are available in the Tri-Community area including museums, the Columbus Symphony, and productions at the Springer Opera House.
