In Colorado Springs, the summers are warm, the winters are very cold and dry, and it is partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 20°F to 84°F and is rarely below 4°F or above 92°F.
The warm season is from June 6 to September 14, with an average daily high temperature above 76°F. The hottest day of the year is July 9, with an average high of 84°F and low of 58°F.
The cold season is from November 20 to March 4, with an average daily high temperature below 51°F. The coldest day of the year is December 30, with an average low of 20°F and high of 43°F.
Almost immediately following the arrival of railroads beginning in 1871, the city’s location at the base of Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains made it a popular tourism destination.
Colorado Springs has more than 55 attractions and activities in the area, including the ANA Money Museum, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Old Colorado City and the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
The Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPeR), located downtown, supports and advocates for the arts throughout the Pikes Peak Region. It operates the Peak Radar website to communicate city events.
Colorado Springs was the original headquarters of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) from its founding in 1992 until 2005, when the organization was moved to Pueblo.
Garden of the Gods, on the western edge of Colorado Springs, has been described as the most beautiful park in the world. It is a National Natural Landmark with 300 foot sandstone rock formations often viewed against a backdrop of the snow-capped mountains of Pikes Peak.
